Samsung’s Project Moohan XR headset has been in the spotlight recently, serving as the flagship launch for an enhanced Android XR platform. However, the company is reportedly planning even more ambitious innovations, including a pair of smart glasses, which could be launched by the end of the year.
What to Expect from Samsung’s Smart Glasses?
Currently under development with the codename “HAEAN,” the smart glasses are nearing completion, with the company finalizing the internal hardware and functionality. The glasses are expected to feature a 12-megapixel camera based on a Sony IMX681 CMOS image sensor. The device will reportedly have dual-silicon architecture, similar to Apple’s Vision Pro headset, and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 platform, alongside a secondary chip from NXP.
The onboard camera will support vision-based features such as scanning QR codes, gesture recognition, and facial identification. The smart glasses are expected to weigh 150 grams and come with a 155 mAh battery.
Lifting from Meta’s Success Formula?
Samsung’s smart glasses will reportedly use AI, powered by Google’s Gemini assistant, which is similar to Meta’s integration of AI into its Ray-Ban Stories. Meta’s smart glasses have seen unexpected success, and Samsung is clearly aiming to replicate this with its own offering.
Samsung is planning an initial production batch of 500,000 units for the smart glasses, and it’s likely that the product will be revealed at Samsung’s Unpacked event in July.
