Microsoft recently announced a new AI upgrade for Windows Search, designed to make it easier to find photos, documents, and settings. This enhanced feature is initially available only on Copilot+ PCs equipped with Snapdragon processors, with support for AMD and Intel processors coming soon. The update includes all the fixes and improvements from build 26100.3613, but some of the top Copilot+ PCs will be excluded due to using AMD or Intel processors.

The improved search now utilizes both semantic and lexical indexing, allowing you to search more efficiently without needing to remember the exact file names. For example, you can type in natural language like “summer picnics” and get relevant results. Not only will local photos on your Copilot+ PC appear, but cloud-stored photos will also be included in the search results. Additionally, exact keyword matches in the text of your cloud files will be highlighted, improving the search experience.

Improved Search and New App Functions in Settings

Along with the enhanced search functionality, Microsoft is also testing a new feature in the Windows 11 preview build. This feature lets you add more functions to specific apps directly from the Settings menu. Though there’s no official release date for the update on AMD and Intel PCs yet, Microsoft plans to release it soon. The goal is to make searches smarter and faster, as well as simplify app management within Windows 11.
