Retro Remake has announced the opening of preorders for its SuperStation One, a clone of the PS One, set to launch later this year.
SuperStation One Features and Pricing
The SuperStation One is priced at $225, with a limited-time preorder offer at $179.99. The $149.99 Founders Edition preorders have already sold out. The console is expected to ship in “Q4 or earlier.”
Hardware and Functionality
While the SuperStation One resembles the original PS One, it is much more than a simple clone. It is powered by a custom MiSTER FPGA, meaning it runs games by replicating the hardware of classic consoles rather than using emulation. This gives it the ability to run cores for systems ranging from the Atari 5200 and NES to PlayStation and Sega Saturn.
Design and Ports
The SuperStation One is available in black, gray, and translucent blue. It includes a 64GB Micro SD card, three USB-A ports, an ethernet port, and an NFC reader for loading specific games. It uses USB-C for power. On the video side, it supports HDMI, VGA, DIN10, composite, and component ports, offering versatility for retro gaming setups. Additionally, it features a 3.5mm audio jack and a digital audio port.
SuperDock Expansion and Future Plans
An expansion slot is available for Retro Remake’s upcoming SuperDock accessory, which will add a slot-loading disc drive, a 2280 m.2 SSD bay, and four additional USB-A ports. Although the SuperDock is not available for preorder yet, customers can secure it with a $5 deposit when they order the SuperStation One.
Retro Remake’s Future Console Plans
The SuperStation One marks Retro Remake’s first console, though the company has plans for more in the future. It has previously released other products, such as a DIY kit to upgrade the Nintendo Switch Lite to an OLED display.
